CEFX 1043 exits the west portal of the Shaughnessy Tunnel also known as the "short tunnel" on the MacDonald Track. The Trans-Canada Highway lies immediately above the brown patch over the portal. Less than a mile ahead of the train lie the doors to the east portal of the Mount MacDonald Tunnel. This location is named Bear Creek on CPR's timetable.
