A crowd gathers to examine the wreckage near the corner of Water Street and Wilson Street in early Port Arthur. A Fort William train running backwards and drawing a line of cars, rounded a curve and crashed into a standing freight train. Engineer Thomas Jackson and fireman Joe Ryan jumped from the Fort William train to safety, as did brakeman George Webb, who was perched on top of the standing train. One of the freight cars was lifted into the air and thrown crosswise across the track. There were no fatalities.
