The "Countess of Dufferin" was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works at Philadelphia in 1872 for the Northern Pacific Railway as number 21. In 1877, after arriving by barge at St. Boniface, the engine was contracted to lay track southward to Emerson, northward to Selkirk, and then eastward toward Port Arthur/Fort William - Date/Photographer unknown.
