Nears Completion

New Terminal Includes Engine House, Machine Shops, Stores,
Car Repair Building, Steam Power Plant, Coaling Plant, Signal Tower, Yard Office

The engine house of the new yard is now approximately 65 percent complete and coaling, sanding, and cinder plants are also nearing the final stages of completion. The stores building, car repair building, and enginemen's bunk house are 80 to 85 percent completed. In addition, construction of the general yard office, retarder control building, hump office, signal tower, and automatic track scale is now in progress, and it is anticipated that these will be completed before the end of the year.

Ballasting of yard tracks is also now well in progress, and it is estimated that upwards of 30 miles of track have been ballasted to date. It is anticipated that all 80 miles of track will be laid and ballasting finished before winter sets in.

An electric power distribution system is being installed as is a system of sewer and water supply. A 104,000 gallon steel water tank which will provide all yard facilities including standing pipes for the furnishing of water to steam locomotives, is also under construction.

The installation of the electrical retarders, which will control the speed of cars in the classification yard should be completed shortly.

A system of floodlighting involving batteries of floodlights similar to those used in baseball parks will also be a feature of the new yard. The lights, mounted on steel towers, 100 feet in height will be provided at strategic points.

Buildings also are being erected for the accommodation of switchmen, carmen, and yardmen and will provide these men with wash-room and locker space, in addition to lunch room and cooking facilities.

(Another article with a significant portion missing. The location isn't named but there were hump yards in Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal. Which one is this?)
