Trailer-Borne Section Track Motors

A $2,535,000 rail maintenance program, incorporating new methods and equipment, has been introduced by CP Rail on some 22,000 miles of track across its nationwide system. The company has grouped 1,303 small section gangs into 643 larger units, and relocated sectionmen in larger communities. All costs involved in moving the men were assumed by the company.

More than 300 of the section gangs have been equipped with trucks and power tools and, with increased mobility, can cover greater distances and perform single operations more quickly.
