CP has a reputation for having one of the most scenic rail routes in the world. Indeed, this abundance of natural beauty made it possible for CP to create and support the thriving tourism industry that would become the backbone of the company's revenue stream for decades. As impressive as the scenery was, looking out a small window was not the most ideal way to take it in. As early as 1902, CP experimented with observation passenger cars modified with elevated viewing areas. Although they were not initially successful, these cars paved the way for the famous dome cars that would come a few decades later. The 1955 inauguration of CP's famous streamliner, The Canadian, introduced modern, stainless steel, passenger equipment and forever changed the face of passenger travel in Canada. Featuring multiple domes and continuing CP's tradition of service excellence, there was no better way to see the scenic wonders of the North than from the comfort of CP's premier train as it sped smoothly across the country.
