Lethbridge Yard Project Completed

First Train:  Extra 6008 East running over relocated main line around Lethbridge's Centre Site Development.

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - Another milestone in the long history of co-operation between the city of Lethbridge and CP Rail occurred recently when Extra 6008 East made the first run over the relocated main line around the city's Centre Site development.

The event marked the final step in a project involving the city, the Province of Alberta, and CP Rail which resulted in the railway's marshalling yard being relocated to a point about seven miles (11 kilometres) to the west.

FINAL BARRIER

Shortly after the historic "first run", the old main line was taken up, removing the final barrier to linking the Centre Site development area with the city's downtown core.

Lethbridge Mayor Andy Anderson was aboard Extra 6008 on that first run along with lethbridge West MLA John Gogo, Alberta Deputy Minister of Economic Development Clarence Roth, and L.A. Hill general manager operation and maintenance Pacific Region.

"This railway relocation project is a historical event", said Mayor Anderson. "The development has occurred at a convenient time, creating a considerable amount of employment in the City of Lethbridge".

"The completion of this project is a fine example of co-operation between the railway, the Province and the city".
