Right Under Our Noses

We need your help to identify new talent. You know the railway and you probably know people looking for work... they might e your friends or family members. Why not get the two together?

CPR is currently experiencing an unprecedented demand for running trades employees. In 2004, we expect to hire people for positions in the running trades in both Canada and the US. This need spans our system, north and south, east and west. Demand is up due to increased freight volumes and the changing mix of the products we handle. More intermodal business, for example, means more train starts.

We need to continue our emphasis on hiring the best. That process is aided by realistic information sessions, assessments, verifications, and interviews. We want to supplement those steps with your input.

Yes, we have a nepotism policy. But that doesn't mean that people related to CPR employees cannot apply. It just means that applicants with family or personal relationships with someone at CPR must pass through the same hiring process as any other applicant. In addition, applicants with relatives who are current employees have to be approved by senior management.

So, if you have a lead on a potential new running trades employee, let them know about the opportunities available at CPR. Canadian job postings can be accessed under "Train Personnel" in Aspire-Hire bulletins on RailTown or www.cpr.ca, and weekly in CPR News OnLine. They are also available through employee services at 1-866-319-3900. The same information is available for US employees on the Job Line at 1-800-635-7995.

To recommend an applicant for a running trades position in Canada, just send an e-mail before the closing date of the job posting to user ID:  Employment Centre, and include the Aspire-Hire number. If the applicant meets the basic requirements of the job, we will ensure they get invited to an information session to learn more about the rewards of a running trades job and the lifestyle demands that go with these 24/7 positions. For more information, refer to Policy 2209:  External Recruitment.

To recommend an applicant for a US position, send and e-mail to adm0282@cpr.ca and have the individual call the Job Line at 1-800-635-7995 to apply.
