2005

On 12 Jul 2005 Canadian Pacific Railway's Hudson steam locomotive number 2816, the Empress, set out on a tour of CPR's southern route through British Columbia. The journey was to leave Vancouver following the Fraser and Thompson Rivers to Kamloops then on to Golden where the train would turn south along the Windermere Valley and eventually climb east through the Crows Nest Pass. The original scheduled stops were North Bend, Kamloops, Golden, Cranbrook, Lethbridge, and finally Calgary.

But it didn't turn out that way.

CP 2816 East was detoured enroute due to bridge damage along the route caused by heavy rain. As a result, the train remained at Fort Steele overnight, then retraced it's track back to Golden taking the mainline to Calgary through the Spiral Tunnels.

Photos taken in the canyons on the first leg of this trip were first published here on 13 Jul 2005. In the meantime, several other photographs have graciously been offered and are now included here in this revised web page. All of these additional photos were provided by Joseph Taylor.
