CPR Green Goat Evolving

 CPR Green Goat 1700
CPR 1700 and Railpower 2402 at Calgary - 9 Apr 2006 Doug McKenzie.

For those old enough to remember there was a time when only diesel-electric units of the same manufacturer could be hooked together in MU (Multiple Unit) operation.

It wasn't until some enterprising CPR employee, whose name history has forgotten or it would be inserted here, devised a solution that allowed cross connections between diesel-electric units of different manufacturers.

CPR's Green Goat number 1700 is currently undergoing a similar problem due to some computer glitch whereby it will only MU with another green goat.

Railpower and CPR are working on this problem with a solution expected in the short-term.

CPR 1700 is a 3rd generation unit built by Railpower. It includes the addition of roll out drawers to simplify battery replacement if required. It only takes a person about an hour to change out a battery if it goes bad. The older units required removal of the whole hood to change out batteries.

The Green Goat product is evolving and continues to improve as time passes.
