Train Hits Oblivious Man

Red Deer - A 20-year-old Central Alberta man is likely counting his blessings after receiving minor injuries from a close encounter with a train.

RCMP Const. Ryan Sales said the man was walking along the tracks while apparently listening to music around 2:30 p.m. yesterday south of Red Deer and, as such, was unaware of the impending danger.

"But attempts to stop the train in time were unsuccessful and the male was struck," Sales said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to hospital in Red Deer, but his injuries are not considered to be life threatening.
