Need Assurances Traffic Will Not Get Stuck at Train Crossing

Alliston Ontario - In regards to the closure of the Tottenham Road south from Albert Street to the Industrial Parkway, it is good to see that at least one local business is prepared to give its voice to the opposition of the plan.

Len Barbaro, of Clockwork Automotive, is entirely correct in standing against the plan. His concerns are for the visibility of his business, which is a very valid point.

Beyond the inconvenience this road realignment will create for local residents in Alliston, the closure of the road will create a division between the northern and southern communities of our municipality.

Residents of Beeton, Tottenham and surrounding areas that have business or family in Alliston will now either have to detour east of the town to enter the community on the planned bypass, or will need to drive west across the Industrial Parkway to Church Street.

Though the latter option, a paved four-lane road, seems like a sensible one, anyone who drives the Industrial Parkway knows what it's like to wait for ten minutes at the railway crossing for CP trains coming out of the Honda property and across the street.

This crossing has been at the centre of controversy before, and will only create further difficulty for road travel into Alliston once the realignment takes place.

It is my hope that the County and the Municipality have made careful analysis of this plan, and that we can be assured traffic flow will not be at the mercy of already lengthy delays at the CP crossing.
