Ride Safely, Experts Say

Service technician Terry Zacher of PowerSports Regina does a safety check on a snowmobile Monday.

Regina Saskatchewan - The snow-covered landscape may be enticing to some snowmobile enthusiasts and to those interested in taking up the activity.

Snowmobile Safety Week is planned for next week and this year the focus is railway safety. The association is partnering with the Canadian Pacific Railway's Operation Lifesaver Program to offer courses on rail safety.

Saskatchewan has more railway crossings than any other province in Canada and this is also a leading cause of snowmobile fatalities across North America.

The presentations are free. For information on the railway presentation or the safety week people can contact the Saskatchewan Safety Council at 757-3197, CPR - Operation Lifesaver (306) 693-5473, or the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Safety Association at 729-3500.
