Site of the Former Viger Hotel and Station - Project Proposal Submitted to Borough of Ville-Marie

Place Viger station was constructed by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1898.

Montreal Quebec - Today, Viger DMC International submitted a master plan, for study, to the Borough of Ville-Marie for the redevelopment of the former Viger hotel and station site. The project calls for the revitalization of two city blocks plus the former hotel and railway station building located between Berri and Saint-Christophe streets and Saint-Antoine and Notre-Dame streets. As a part of this proposal, Viger DMC International has initiated a consultation and discussion process on one of the most exciting new projects in Montreal.

"Our project highlights the tourism, commercial, and residential vocation of this unique site. Its historical value and exceptional location at the eastern gateway to Old Montreal will no doubt make it a popular urban destination. The plan to breathe new life into the former Viger hotel and station site is an exciting one in many respects, particularly since it involves a well-recognized Montreal landmark. It is also a key economic lever for Old Montreal and the city at large," explained Viger DMC International President and CEO, Mr. Phil O'Brien.

Local residents are invited to come and discuss the project with its developer and urban planning advisors during a three-day open house on 16, 18, and 19 Jun 2007. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the Viger DMC International proposal.

"The proposal we have submitted takes into account the needs that local residents and others have expressed for locally accessible services and parking. We want the project to proceed in close cooperation with area residents. We will keep them regularly informed throughout each stage of development and hope they will voice their opinions. We think it is very important to keep the channels of communication and dialogue open and free so everyone benefits," added Mr. Cameron Charlebois, General Manager of Viger DMC International.

The project follows the acquisition in May 2006 of the former Viger hotel and station building and adjacent land by Viger Limited Partnership, a consortium of three companies:  Homburg Invest Inc. based in Halifax, Telemedia Entreprises Inc., Montreal, and SNS Property Finance based in Hoevelaken, Netherlands.
