New Old Shield on 2816

CPR engineer William Stetler shows off the new old company crest - 21 Aug 2007 Photographer unknown.

Minnesota USA - Canadian Pacific Railway steam locomotive number 2816, the "Empress", is currently touring in the United States with a new logo on the cab.

This recently applied company crest first appeared on CPR equipment in 1929 until it was replaced by another version of the beaver crest in 1946. (See the small images to the right.) The circle in the logo would contain a symbol of the company's interests as applicable such as a hotel crest, a ship, a truck, a telegraph pole, or for the railway its new slogan, "World's Greatest Travel System".

Application on the locomotive was apparently approved by company management prior to travelling south into America. The shield is made of heavy gauge steel with a porcelain finish baked onto the surface.
