Slow Down the Train in a Fast-Paced World

The Shogomoc Railway Site, located in Bristol, New Brunswick.

Bristol New Brunswick - The Shogomoc Railway Site, located in Bristol, is here to help you slow down and appreciate the details of life in this fast-paced world.

The area has lots to offer, including guided tours of the site, a gift shop with New Brunswick-made items, Fresh Fine Dining restaurant, and year-round activities.

The current train station, which sits next to the train in Bristol, was originally constructed as the Florenceville CPR station in 1914.

It's a mirror image of the former Bristol station, which sat on this site from 1910 to 1971.

When it closed, it was sold to a local man who removed it from the site.

In 1992, the Florenceville station was designated a Heritage Railway station by the historical sites and monuments board, but it was decommissioned in 1998.

In 2000, the Shogomoc historical railway station was one of the few remaining examples of this design and the only remaining one of its type east of Montreal.

The train's name, Shogomoc, originated from the railway the train currently sits on.

The railway ran from McAdam to Acrostic and throughout time had different spellings but means "still waters".

Melanie Clark, director of Business Development and Tourism, said once the train began its renovations the first car was to be a dining car, but, as they started working on the project, they realized all the cars had potential.

They decided it should be utilized year round, not just for seasonal tourism.

At the time of their opening the town was looking to lease the train and Fresh Fine Dining was looking for a location.

The Fresh Fining Dining restaurant can seat 26 people and has hosted many group events, including a couple of small wedding receptions, Christmas parties, Mother's Day, and more.

Sara Caines and Ian Purdy are the operators of the restaurant.

Fresh Fine Dining is open from Monday to Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The gift shop and guided tours are available from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
