Truck Driver Charged in Collision at Railway Crossing

Putnam Ontario - The driver of a tractor-trailer that collided with - and derailed - a train Thursday has been charged in the incident.

Danny Kelly, 59, of Brownsville, Ont., is charged with disobeying a railway crossing signal.

He was originally taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The three men operating the freight train, which was carrying seven cars loaded with stone blocks, weren't injured.

Editor:  According to yesterday's news article it was the truck carrying the stone blocks.

The train and tracks were seriously damaged when the flatbed trailer, travelling west on Breen Road, was struck by the southbound train.

Cleanup and repairs are estimated to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
