Balzac Car-Train Crash Injures Four Men


Hockey equipment lies in the back of a car that collided with a CPR train at a level crossing on Highway 566 at Balzac on Tuesday. All four men in the car were taken to Foothills Hospital, two of them in life-threatening condition.
 
 
Balzac Alberta - One man was airlifted to hospital and two more have life-threatening injuries after a car carrying four people drove into a moving train in Balzac.
 
The crash happened Tuesday around 3 p.m. at a marked, level railroad crossing on Highway 566.
 
Airdrie RCMP say a 1987 Honda Prelude was leaving the parking lot of a Balzac store eastbound when it drove into the southbound train.
 
There were four men inside the car at the time of the collision and all were taken to Foothills Hospital, said Cpl. Darrin Turnbull.
 
Two men are being treated for life-threatening injuries.
 
"The warning lights and bells at the railway crossing were in working order", said Turnbull.
 
Mounties investigating the crash closed the road to traffic.
 
Police are asking witnesses to come forward with any information about the collision to Airdrie RCMP at 403-948-3220.
