Mayor Miller to Drive Last Spike for $25M John Street Roundhouse Revitalization

Leon's to open "Most Unique Furniture Store in Canada".
What: Ceremony to celebrate the Revitalization of the John Street
Roundhouse and Roundhouse Park along with the official Opening of the new
40,000 square foot Leon's Furniture Store.
The combined investment in Roundhouse Park improvements, the Toronto
Railway Heritage Centre bays, restoration of the heritage structures, and the
adaptive re-use of the Roundhouse building will be approximately $25 million.

Who: Mayor David Miller, Councillor Adam Vaughan, Orin Krivel President Toronto Railway Historical Association,
Barry Zagdanski President John Street Roundhouse Corporation, Don Loucks Heritage Architect IBI Group, Terry Leon
President Leon's, and Glenn Garwood City of Toronto.
Photo-Op: Mayor Miller, Councillor Vaughan and Official Party will drive
the last spike on the refurbished turntable, which is the centerpiece of the
Toronto Railway Heritage Centre, including Roundhouse Park. The Official Party
will then tour the new Leon's store.
Special Media tours:
- Leon's President Terry Leon and Heritage Architect Don Loucks will
lead a special tour of the store focusing on the adaptive re-use of
the building and the creation of a an exciting urban retail furniture
environment;
- A "speeder" train will be available to take media into Roundhouse
Park to see heritage buildings, including the Don Station and Cabin D
which contains the original interlocking mechanical switch equipment
used in the mainline railway corridor near Bathurst Street;
- Volunteers from the Toronto Railway Historical Association will be
offering tours of the Railway Heritage Centre's "Work In Progress"
bays (15-16-17).
