Charge Laid in Train Jumping Incident

Wetaskiwin Alberta - At approximately 3:00 AM on Friday, 11 Dec 2009, an individual climbed aboard a Canadian Pacific freight train in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. As the train gained speed, he became trapped on the train and called for help. He was apprehended near Blackfalds, north of Red Deer AB and transported to hospital.
 
The Canadian Pacific Police Service have charged Mr. Jonathan George Hambler with Trespassing under Section 2(1)(a) of the Alberta Petty Trespass Act and issued a citation ticket pursuant to that charge. Mr. Hambler can voluntarily plead guilty and pay a fine, or he must appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on 5 Feb 2010.
 
Trespassing on railway property and climbing on board a freight train is both illegal and very dangerous, with serious injuries or fatalities resulting in past incidents.
