CPR Hiring More Workers in Revelstoke This Summer

Revelstoke British Columbia - Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) posted a job announcement on the Revelstoke Employment Centre's website, saying the company is going to hire 15 conductors this summer.

A CPR spokesperson says the new hiring is the result of an increase in rail volume.

In 2008, 150 workers were laid off in Revelstoke due to the decrease in rail traffic, but they were back to work by 2009.

"They are valued employees for CPR," says Breanne Feigel, the CRP media relations regional manager. "And we are glad to have them back."

CPR decided to hire 15 conductors in Revelstoke this summer due to a number of factors including retirement, proper resource planning, and increase of rail volume, says Feigel.

She said part of the decision is based on company predictions about expected rail traffic in the near future, and this wave is designed to meet the expectations.

"Hiring goes in flows," Feigel said.

CPR currently has 16,000 employees across Canada, and the human resource team focuses on recognizing when a large number of workers will be retiring and what area is short of resources.

CPR is hoping to hire more workers if rail volumes continue to increase, but Feigel said that depends on how the general economy fares.
