Calgary Alberta - The Calgary Fire Department is investigating an explosion at a building at Alyth Yard, just southeast of downtown.

A CP Rail dispatcher called 911 at 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening to report the blast.

When crews arrived in the 1700 block of 30 Avenue S.E. they found damage to the building, but no fire.

Nobody was inside at the time, and there were no injuries.

The force of the blast threw debris several hundred metres across the railway tracks, where it landed on cars and in yards.

The business uses steam to clean railway tankers but was closed when the explosion occured.

Occupational Health and Safety and the Calgary Fire Department are investigating.

The railway facility serves as a hump classification yard, as well as a rail car repair shop and diesel locomotive servicing facility.
