Sask., CP, Agree on Land Sale

Earlier this year, the Saskatchewan government released
concept drawings of a proposed domed stadium for Regina.

Regina Saskatchewan - The Saskatchewan government says it has arranged to buy land in Regina from Canadian Pacific Railway, if and only if, a massive stadium project goes ahead.
 
The minister responsible for the stadium proposal, Ken Cheveldayoff, said Tuesday that the province has reached a conditional sale agreement with CP, which owns land south of Dewdney Avenue.
 
However, it doesn't mean a decision has been made to proceed with the multi-purpose entertainment facility, Cheveldayoff said. If there's no stadium, the province won't buy the land.
 
The province isn't disclosing what it's paying for the land.
 
A feasibility study released earlier this year said the project could cost $382 million, with an optional retractable roof adding $45 million to the bill.
 
In addition to being a new home for the Saskatchewan Roughriders football team, the facility would host rock concerts and other entertainment events.
 
The province is looking for the federal government to commit money to the project, but there has been no announcement from Ottawa.
 
The provincial government says it will make a decision this fall on whether or not to proceed.
