Train Stowaway Caught Near Alliston

New Tecumseth Ontario - A 28-year-old stowaway's journey on a freight train came to an end this week after he was caught by police south of Alliston Wednesday afternoon (20 Jul 2011).

Nottawasaga OPP were called to the 12th Line Canadian Pacific railway stop around 1 p.m. after a CP employee aboard the engine car spotted the man hitching a ride near the back of the train.

Police were notified and they met up with the train when it stopped at the rail yard to bring the man into custody.

It was later discovered the man had originally boarded the train from the Ontario township of Chapleau, which is about a 735-kilometre drive northwest of Alliston.

After further investigation, police also discovered the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Toronto Police Service.

The man was arrested and charged with trespassing. Later that day, Nottawasaga OPP transferred custody of the man to Toronto Police.
