Mission Man Dies After Being Struck by Train

Mission City British Columbia - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train west of Mission Tuesday afternoon.

The Mission man was hit at the Nelson Street crossing south of the Lougheed Highway around 4:15 p.m., said RCMP Sgt. Miriam Dickson.

It's not clear why the man was on the tracks, said Dickson.

"The Mission RCMP is working with CP Rail and the coroners office to determine exactly what happened," she said.

"We do know the railway crossing gate was down and the red stop lights were on."

The freight train was stopped on the tracks while RCMP and CP Rail officials investigated.

The West Coast Express traveling east into Mission experienced only short delays.
