CP Says Pensions Biggest Obstacle to Profitability

Toronto Ontario - Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. said higher pension expense is the biggest hurdle to increasing profit margins as it holds talks with William Ackman's Pershing Square Capital Management LP, its largest investor.
 
"The biggest headwind for us right now in terms of getting there in the near term is our pension headwind," chief financial officer Kathryn McQuade said Tuesday at the Scotia Capital Transportation and Aerospace conference in Toronto. "It is something that I watch every single day," she said.
