Train Derails Near Oxbow After Being Struck by Pickup Truck

Oxbow Saskatchewan - A CP oil train derailed near Oxbow Sunday.

The 82-car train was struck by a vehicle at a level crossing 11 kilometers east of Oxbow late Sunday night.

"The result of the impact by the vehicle running into the side of the train resulted in roughly 22 cars derailing. Most of those cars remain upright," said Kevin Hrusak of Canadian Pacific Railway.

Six of the tanker cars did leak some of the crude oil cargo. However, Hruska says the site is contained and there is no danger to the public or the environment.

No one on the train was injured.

The 20-year-old driver of the vehicle which struck the train did receive minor injuries.
