The Transportation Safety Board of Canada Releases Investigation Report into a Canadian Pacific Railway Derailment in Buckskin Ontario

Gatineau Quebec - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) today released its final investigation report (R11T0016) into the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) derailment in Buckskin, Ontario.
 
On 26 Jan 2011, CP freight train 220-24 derailed one car at CP MacTier Subdivision, near Buckskin, Ontario. The train continued on to the Buckskin north siding switch where an additional 20 cars, including a dangerous goods tank car, derailed. Some of the derailed cars side-swiped northbound CP freight train 221-25, which was stationary in the Buckskin siding, derailing the lead locomotive, damaging the 2nd locomotive, and the first 9 cars on train 221. As a precaution, 15 families from the nearby area were evacuated. There were no injuries and no loss of product.
 
The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway, and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
