Heritage units enroute to Coquitlam - 5 Nov 2012 John Leeming.

12 November 2012

Movement on the Thompson Sub - More

The two heritage units I photographed are going to Nelson to be put on display.

They may have been included in train 205-01 to Coquitlam by mistake.

You are probably aware that the Nelson station is being restored (not by CP).

The units are supposed to be placed on the south side of the station but this may not happen until 2014-2015.

Good to see that 4104 is going home!

John Leeming.

Editor's Note:  The historic Canadian Pacific Railway Nelson station, designated under the federal Heritage Railway Stations Protection Act, is currently being renovated as the new Chamber of Commerce building. The station and proposed plaza will be a catalyst that activates the surrounding Railtown district, due in part to its strategic central location as a "knuckle" between downtown Nelson, the shore via a proposed trail along Cottonwood Creek, and the Cottonwood Creek Falls Park. An area immediately adjacent to the renovated station is proposed as mixed-use, bringing residential into the area in order to create additional activity.

Boarded up and with graffiti covering it the glory days are long gone. There are no passengers trains here anymore. At one time there was a passenger train eastbound to Cranbrook and Fort McLeod and westbound over the Kettle Valley and the Coquihalla to Vancouver. Freight trains still use this line heading to the smelter in Trail and the pulp mill in Castlegar - 27 Feb 2009 Photographer unknown.
