Layoffs at CP Rail:  The Teamsters Await Details

Laval Quebec - The Teamsters Union will not make any comment regarding the announcement of impending layoffs at Canadian Pacific until the details are known.

The company has announced its intention to eliminate 4500 jobs, but has yet to meet with the leaders of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) which represents conductors, yardmen, locomotive engineers, and railway traffic controllers.

"It is difficult for us to evaluate the scope of the decision," commented Doug Finnson, Vice-President of the TCRC which represents nearly 5,000 workers at Canadian Pacific. "We will wait to meet with management to find out the details, and will reserve comment until later."

The Teamsters Canada Twitter feed will be updated as the details become known.
