Four-Car Derailment in CP Rail Yard

Moose Jaw Saskatchewan - Four cars derailed in the Moose Jaw rail yard on Sunday morning, said Canadian Pacific Railway spokesperson Kevin Hrysak.

In an email sent to the Times-Herald, Hrysak noted that the incident occurred when one of the yard crews were switching rail cars.

The four cars involved in the derailment were comprised of three tankers and one boxcar.

According to Hrysak, the empty tanker cars last contained asphalt.

Hrysak also said that the incident occurred while the cars were traveling at slow speeds.

As to what exact speed they were going is not yet known.

"There were no injuries, no environmental impact, and at no point was there any risk to the surrounding community," reads part of Hrysak's email.

Furthermore, he noted that Canadian Pacific Railway takes every derailment seriously and is in the process of conducting an investigation into what transpired.

However, at this time the cause of the incident is not yet known.
