Mayor Accuses CP Rail of Bullying

Vancouver British Columbia - Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson has accused Canadian Pacific Railway of bullying residents by tearing up their community gardens along the Arbutus Corridor.

The railway company gave people using land along the corridor in Vancouver until 31 Jul 2014 to vacate the area as it said it wanted to prepare the line for use.

Earlier this week land was cleared, but the gardens left alone.

Yesterday backhoes went into the gardens and began tearing them up.

Mayor Gregor Robertson alleged the company is using bullying tactics and being disrespectful.

"CP's removal and destruction of long-standing structures along the Arbutus Corridor is completely unwarranted, and these actions are simply a bullying tactic," Robertson said in a release.

"The City made a fair market offer to CP to buy the land, which they turned down."

There are reports of CP Rail equipment being vandalized overnight and police were on hand at the site Friday morning.
