Man Fatally Struck by CP Freight Train

Toronto Ontario - A man was fatally struck by a Canadian Pacific freight train in west-end Toronto Wednesday afternoon.

Toronto Police say it's likely the man was consuming alcohol when he was struck by the three-car train near Runnymede Road and Dundas Street West at approximately 13:00.

"We did find some alcohol at the scene," Sgt. Stephen Burns said.

"When there is alcohol involved, you tend to lose your footing, your balance."

He said that the death was likely not a suicide.

The westbound train was travelling between 80 to 100 km/hr at the time of the incident.

Burns said that the conductor did not realize the train had struck someone until they had stopped in Milton.

CP spokesperson Andy Cummins said that their trains are moving again.

Burns said that GO Train service was not affected by the incident.
