Close Call on the Tracks

Pincher Creek Alberta - A man escaped with only minor injuries after being clipped by a train at Munsel's Crossing south of Highway 3 near RR 290 east of Pincher Creek on Labour Day.

Pincher Creek Emergency Services (PCES) Chief Dave Cox said three men were crossing a trestle when the train arrived.

Two of the men managed to get out of the way safely.

A third man was found in the tall grass and taken to hospital with minor injuries and released the same day, according to the RCMP.

The train came to a stop on the bridge.

The PCES responded with two ambulances, a rescue unit, and Engine 43.

An ambulance from Fort Macleod and a rescue unit from Cowley were also dispatched to the scene.

"We thought we were dealing with three injured people," said Cox.

"That's why we threw so many resources at it. Usually trains versus people are not a good outcome."

Two males have been charged with entering land without permission under the Province of Alberta's Petty Trespass Act.

A third charge is pending.
