Save the CP Station Store Open

Portage la Prairie Manitoba - Members of the Model Railway Club are teaming up with the Heritage Centre and are hard at work trying to raise money to preserve the old CP Station in Portage.

They are running the save the CP Station store in the Mall.

President of the Model Railway Club Barry Hunter says it's great to see all the people having fun with model trains.

"We have so many little kids come in here and they're just enthralled with seeing the trains run. We let the little kids come in and run the O scale for us, we let them sound the horn and run the engines. The HO scale is a little more intricate, so we have just the member's of the club running it because it is radio controlled."

There will be model trains and other railway related items for sale at the store.

Hunter says they usually raise around fifteen hundred to two thousand dollars, but that number will most likely drop due to low traffic in the mall.

The store is run by Railway Club volunteers, Hunter explains what the proceeds will go toward.

"This year our main project is to put a wheelchair ramp to the station itself, and it may be years to come, but hopefully we can come up with the money to install the wheelchair ramp."
