Kenora Councillor Says
More Work Needed

Kenora Ontario - Kenora city councillor Sharon Smith says she's encouraged by news out of Queen's Park.

But she says there's more work to be done, in order to safeguard our communities from railway accidents.

"I think that railways that go through communities pose a significant risk. I think that we need to be cognizant of that. The example of what's been happening in the last few weeks in Gogama and in Brandon just shows that we've got a long way to go, before we make our communities safe," she said.

Ontario's Transport minister was at the site of the latest rail derailment Friday.

Steven Del Duca is lobbying for better railway safety.

He has joined with the Province of Quebec, as they lobby the federal minister responsible for further changes to railway regulations.
