Car Collides with CP Train
at Railway Crossing in Kitchener

Kitchener Ontario - A Canadian Pacific freight train and a car collided around 07:30, Tuesday at the railway crossing at Riverbank Drive and King Street East in Kitchener after failing to stop at the intersection.

Waterloo Region Police say the driver of the car, a 21-year-old man from Waterloo, has been charged with disobeying a railway crossing signal.

Both the driver of the vehicle and the crew on the train were not injured, said CP spokesperson Salem Woodrow in an email to CBC News.

The car wasn't so lucky, receiving about $4,000 worth of damage from the crash, police said.

Woodrow said the railway crossing was equipped with lights and alarm bells that were working properly at the time of the collision.

Both Waterloo Region police and CP Police were on site Tuesday morning to investigate the incident.
