Last Spike Driven into Railway
as Kinsmen Park Opens

Saskatoon Saskatchewan - In a scene reminiscent of Donald Smith driving the Last Spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway, Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison punched a gleaming spike into place to signify the grand reopening of Kinsmen Park.

"This is a really exciting day," Atchison told reporters as the Canpotex Train at PotashCorp Playland in Kinsmen Park chugged out of the station behind him.

"Really what it's all about, families coming together and enjoying it."

The $1.5 million train, which was built by the Arizona Railroad Depot and arrived in Saskatoon last month, is part of a $9.1 million redevelopment project that was approved by Saskatoon city council in 2011.

The bulk of the funds, $7.5 million, came from Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan.

Canadian Pacific and Canpotex also contributed to the project.

Lee Knafelc, PotashCorp's vice president of human resources of administration, said the project resonated with the company from the beginning.

"Everybody can understand why something like this is so important to a community and what it adds to a community," he said.

"It told its own story."
