Unoccupied Vehicle Struck
by Train in Kamloops

Kamloops British Columbia - On 11 Mar 2017 at approximately 23:09 the Kamloops RCMP received a report that a vehicle had been struck by a train at the Tanager road crossing.

Emergency personnel attended and observed that a westbound train had in fact struck a small Toyota car.

An investigation by police revealed that the driver of the car attempted to make a left hand turn off of the East Trans-Canada Highway onto the Tanager road crossing and slid off the roadway and on to the tracks.

The driver was unable to get the vehicle off the tracks so he and his passenger quickly exited the car for safety and called 911.

Unfortunately, there was a westbound train in the vicinity that was unable to stop in time for the car.

A collision occurred and the vehicle was severely damaged.

Fortunately there were no injuries sustained during this incident by either the vehicle or the train occupants.
