Revelstoke British Columbia - A CP train derailed in Revelstoke near the industrial park on Sunday, 27 Jan 2019.
 
Six cars derailed in total, and four of them were on their side.
 
One of the cars spilled a small mountain of lentils onto the tracks just to the east of the Eastern Access bridge that connects downtown Revelstoke to the Trans-Canada Highway.
 
Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) spokesperson Alex Fournier said the incident happened at about 14:40 Revelstoke time.
 
He said that six grain hopper cars on a westbound train derailed.
 
He said there were no dangerous goods in the derailed cars and no injuries from the derailment.
 
"At this point we are assessing," Fournier said.
 
"We are in contact with the railway and we have asked for more information."
 
He added that investigators from the TSB were following up on the derailment, but hadn't yet decided whether to send investigators to the scene.
 
"Once we find out more we may decide to investigate more," Fournier said.
 
"It's too early for us. We are still assessing this."
 
In a brief statement emailed to the Mountaineer, a CP spokesperson provided a differing timeline for the incident than was reported to the TSB.
 
Spokesperson Salem Woodrow said the incident happened at 13:25.
 
It is unclear which timeline is correct.
 
She said there were no injuries and "no public safety concerns" stemming from the incident, and that CP is investigating the incident.
 
The back half of the train consisted of dozens of black tanker cars that carry a variety of chemicals, including oil.
 
That portion of the train did not derail.
 
An individual who answered the Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services phone line said that the Fire Chief would be back at work on Monday and could answer questions then.
