Canadian Pacific Full Length Dome Car

Calgary Alberta - This car was built in 1937 by Pullman Standard as Southern Pacific (SP) Lunch Counter-Tavern car number 10312.

In 1955 SP rebuilt it as Dome-Lounge car number 3605 and used it in the Shasta Daylight service.

In 1971 it was leased by Amtrak then transferred to Amtrak as Dome-Lounge number 9374 in 1972.

Amtrak retired the car in 1981 storing it in Los Angeles.

From then until 2000 it had various owners, including Bill Wallace who named it after his wife "Laura" in 1995, even seeing excursion service for a time in Mexico.

In 2000 it went to Colorado joining the Canon City Royal Gorge Route Railroad being re-numbered CCRG 9374.

The Royal Gorge put it into storage at Canon City in 2005.

And... finally, Canadian Pacific Railway acquired it in 2018 as it arrived at their Ogden Yard on 26 May 2018.

The CP Heritage Fleet team spent some 13 months rebuilding the car, including replacement of the steel sides with a heavier gauge metal.

The rebuild was completed early this week with an apparent flawless test run on Monday evening to Bearspaw (west of Calgary).

The car has CP number 3605 and is named "Selkirk".

A masterful job was done on the rebuild as old-time craftsmanship is certainly evident.

The paint job is so shiny that the surface acts like a mirror!

On Wednesday, 12 Jun 2019, the train moved past 8th Street SE from Ogden Yard to the downtown Calgary Pavilion where it would rest on Depot Track 1 overnight before embarking passengers for what turned out to be an 08:00 departure for Golden on 13 Jun 2019.
