Bride and Groom Get Creative at Middleton Railway Museum Wedding
20 August 2020

Middleton Nova Scotia - A guy from the wrong side of the tracks stands waiting for a gal draped in white at Middleton's long-shuttered train station.

He shifts his weight from one foot to the other and straightens his posture.

Tall grass clumped between abandoned rails sways at the will of the wind.

Warm sun kisses the smiling faces of a bride walking toward her groom.

His eyes follow her from inside the weather-worn station to the makeshift aisle leading to an outdoor platform adorned with antique luggage and an old lantern.

They met online 10 years ago and instantly connected.

There was a small commitment ceremony at his hometown in Ontario a couple of years ago but on this day, 19 Aug 2020, it becomes official.

The next stop is holy matrimony, and Cass Moon and Tina Arsenault are holding one-way tickets.

Justice of the Peace Cheryle Gaston, dressed in a conductor's uniform that conveniently hangs in the railway museum, recites an altered script enriched with some 1920s slang matching the wedding party's attire to welcome the small crowd.

The soon-to-be newlyweds, two witnesses, a museum representative, and a local reporter.

Within a matter of minutes, ring fingers sport new bling and the deal is sealed with a kiss.

As far as Middleton Railway Museum board chairperson Dianne Hankinson LeGard knows, it's the first time the local landmark has hosted a wedding.

"This is the first time, to my knowledge, that anyone's ever requested to be married at the train station," she says.

But maybe, she hopes, it won't be the last.

"I think it's fantastic, I really do. Really neat."

Arsenault concurs.

She thinks "husband and wife" has a nice ring to it.

"It's about time," she says.

Moon, a photographer with 14 Wing Greenwood, picked the venue.

He regularly runs and cycles by the train station, and it worked well with the vision his bride had for the day after she found her dress.

"We like to be different," he says.

"It's something nobody else will ever do."

Anyone familiar with the decorations at their Greenwood home around Halloween wouldn't be shocked to see how their wedding played out.

They love to decorate, love costumes, love having fun.

Moon first reached out to Arsenault because he was looking for a companion to take to the movies.

They didn't even make it to the show, just walked around for hours.

"We just enjoy each other. Enjoy life," says Arsenault.
