Tank Hill Washout
15 November 2021

Tank Hill British Columbia - The Trans-Canada Highway has been completely washed out at the Tank Hill railway overpass east of Lytton.

Aerial photos published by the provincial government shows Highway 1 has been fully washed into the Thompson River where the railway passes over the road.

The rail line remains intact. There is no estimated time of reopening for Highway 1.

The slide is among several that have come crashing down on BC Highways Sunday and Monday.

The Coquihalla, Highway 1 in the Fraser Valley, Highway 3, and Highway 7 are all closed.

There is currently no route between the Lower Mainland and the rest of Canada.

Author unknown.

Image The photos below shows a large washout of the bridge's east abutment (geographically north) and the washout beneath the west abutment. It will not be possible to run trains across until this substantial damage is repaired. Hopefully those exposed piles are buried in bedrock.
