NREX 2007 is a two-engine 1,400 horsepower B+B GenSet switcher model designation 2GS-14B built by the National Railway Equipment company of California. The switcher is designed to reduce air emissions, improve tractive effort, and cut fuel usage compared with a conventional switcher. Microprocessor controls and modularized mechanical platforms are utilized to decrease maintenance. The unit is shown here out of service due to technical problems at Alyth Yard in Calgary, Alberta, where it is undergoing tests by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Watch for additional information appearing in the next issue of Railfan Magazine - 22 May 2007 Doug McKenzie.
