Steam Locomotive No. 10 "Falcon" Update
3 May 2020

The Corris Railway has released an update on their new build Falcon steam locomotive No. 10.

The boiler and smokebox for No. 10 have now departed from the carriage shed at Maespoeth Junction.

Work will soon start on the brake gear for the locomotive.

This work will be completed by two or three of the same team that have made components for the carriages built at Maespoeth in the past.

Meanwhile, a Corris Railway Society in the East Midlands is working to produce patterns for the brake blocks, and the cast-iron brake stand which will support the shaft and handle, this all saves money on the cost of building No. 10.

At Alan Keef's workshop, the boiler and smokebox have arrived, and work has continued on the motion for the locomotive.

Castings have arrived from the foundry for the eccentrics, and the crossheads have been trial fitted.

The most recent piece of progress saw the right hand side position bar put into place so the slide bar alignment could be checked.

Once the slide bars have been aligned and bolted, the crosshead slippers can be machined to the right specification.

The valve buckles have been machined, and a few weeks earlier were sent for the insides to be wire cut out.

Progress is now moving to the other fittings, and work off-site is now being completed on the Salter Spring Balances, this will control the safety valves when the completed locomotive is in use.

The Corris Railway are now in discussions regarding the fitting of the boiler.
