D&RGW caboose 0586 is a typical van seen most anywhere on the D&RGW system. It was constructed in 1900 by the railroad's shops. This was the "office" for the conductor and rear-end brakeman. It contained beds and a pot-bellied stove for heat and cooking. The cupola provided a position to monitor the operation of the train while in motion.
