Area Locomotive Gets Role in Reese Witherspoon Movie
6 June 2010

Eastgate Siding Nevada - The steam locomotive number 18 owned by the Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway is in southern California earning money as a major player in a movie starring Reese Witherspoon.

The engine will return in early July after its role in the upcoming film "Water for Elephants" featuring Witherspoon, about a circus train rolling across the country.

The commission was paid in the neighborhood of US$70,000 for the use of the engine.

"It (engine 18) will definitely pay for its keep this year," said Kevin Ray, spokesman for the project.

Ray said the Baldwin, built in 1914, was trucked down to the movie set along with one of the engineers who took care of it.

In addition to engine number 18 heading to movie screens, the NV Energy Foundation in early spring granted US$100,000 to the Northern Nevada Railway Foundation.

This is the fund-raising arm of the Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway.

The grant makes NV Energy the first corporate sponsor of the V&T Railway.
