Overhaul of Locomotive Number 1
1 January 2021

The oldest original Furka steam locomotive, HG 3/4 number 1, built in 1913, needs a major overhaul.

The last major overhaul was given to the locomotive in 1992-1993 after it was brought back from Vietnam.

After the refurbishment of HG 4/4 number 708, the locomotive is to be transported to Uzwil in exchange, and brought into shape with the tried and tested specialist knowledge and many years of experience of the workshop team.

The components needing to be replaced are already known.

Dismantling will also show what else comes to light.

A project team made up of representatives from DFB AG and the steam locomotive friends has drawn up a project plan and various basic documents.

The costs budgeted, based on the experience of the revision of the HG 3/4 number 9, are to be largely financed by steam locomotive fans.

In summer 2020, fundraising for the main overhaul of the oldest original Furka steam locomotive was launched.

Homepage, flyers in the DadF, donation letters, advertising stickers on MGB locomotives, advertising in Gletschund, requests to foundations, and other institutions have already generated a very gratifying amount of money.

The donation level as of 31 Dec 2020 has exceeded the threshold of CHF 440,000 ($594,544.85).

Of course, it is still important to continue to diligently generate financial resources.

The revision will not start until at least 80 percent (preferably 100 percent) of the funds are guaranteed.

We thank all our previous donors and patrons.
