The 1885 Swanage Railway station is located near the center of Swanage and within walking distance of the beach. It also serves as the Wilts & Dorset bus depot for the town. In addition to the booking office the station also contains a railway shop with souvenirs, books, and model trains. A coach beside the platform has been converted into a cafe called the Bird's Nest Buffet offering tea, coffee, drinks, pasties, and snacks.
