A crowd has gathered along the platform at Porthmadog Harbour Station to watch the slate waggon horse pulling demonstration. While there were four waggons made available the horse only pulled one which was empty that required very little effort on the horse's part. The man in the white coat and black bowler hat rode in a slate waggon with manual brakes. His right hand is resting on the brake lever. When slate was originally shipped from Blaenau Ffestiniog downgrade to Porthmadog by gravity there must have been several of the brake equipped waggons to control the speed of descent. How many would be required is a question without an answer at this time. Perhaps research could locate the answer.
